What is microcurrent?

A microcurrent device passes a very low-level pulsed current into the skin, close to the electrical impulses the body produces itself. It gently stimulates the facial muscles and encourages circulation and lymph flow, so the skin may look more radiant and full of life.

It is a non-invasive treatment: the skin is not broken, and after your visit you can go straight back to your day. It is a good choice if you would rather avoid needles or downtime after a treatment.

Who the microcurrent facial is for

Microcurrent is most often chosen by clients whose skin is:

  • mature and gradually losing firmness;
  • tired and greyish, having lost its vitality;
  • dry and lacking moisture.

The treatment is meant to help keep the skin toned and to support the contours of the face, so it often becomes a regular part of caring for mature skin.

If fine lines and skin texture are your main concern, microneedling is also worth considering. We will advise which treatment to choose after a conversation and a look at your skin.

If you are pregnant, taking any medication or have a skin condition, please tell us before the treatment – together we will decide whether it is right for you.

How the treatment works

  1. We talk with you and look at your skin.
  2. We carefully remove make-up and impurities.
  3. We apply a conductive gel: it helps the currents reach the skin evenly.
  4. We move the device’s probes slowly over the face, gently stimulating the muscles and circulation.
  5. We apply a mask chosen for what your skin needs.
  6. To finish, we moisturise the skin with a serum or cream that suits it.

The treatment takes about 45 minutes.

Aftercare

Microcurrent does not break the skin, so there are no special restrictions. On the first day we simply recommend keeping the skin moisturised and remembering your sun protection when you go outdoors. After your visit we tell you which home care suits your skin.

A course of treatments

Microcurrent works gradually, so we usually recommend a course of 6–10 treatments, and after that one treatment a month to keep the skin toned. We will tell you how many treatments your skin needs after your first visit. Home care between treatments matters too, so each time we advise you on which products to choose.

Microcurrent can also be included in a bespoke programme together with other treatments.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is a microcurrent facial painful?

No. The current is very low, so it is often barely noticeable; at times you may feel only a light tingling. Many clients relax during the treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

Microcurrent works gradually, so we usually recommend a course of 6–10 treatments, followed by a maintenance treatment once a month. After your first visit, we will tell you how many your own skin needs.

Can I go back to work after the treatment?

Yes. Microcurrent does not break the skin, so after the treatment you can go back to your day as usual.

Can microcurrent be combined with other treatments?

Yes. We often combine the microcurrent facial with other firming treatments. We will advise what to choose once we have looked at your skin.
