What are exosomes?
Exosomes are microscopic vesicles, just 30–200 nanometres in size. Through them, cells in effect send one another messages: they contain proteins, lipids and other molecules that tissues need in order to renew themselves. In cosmetology, exosomes are used to support the skin’s renewal.
The exosomes we use are plant-derived – they are obtained from lemon balm extract. We work with EXOS, a kit from the Spanish company Simildiet: the freeze-dried (lyophilised) exosomes are mixed with a diluent based on biomimetic peptides.
We also use exosomes in the multi-step Exotech facial, but there it is a different concentrate, made for that treatment, which we deliver without needles: with ultrasound or oxygen infusion.
Who it suits
The treatment suits all skin types. We suggest it when your skin looks tired or lacks moisture, firmness or radiance, and when you would like a more even tone and a fresher look.
The exosome treatment can be combined with other rejuvenating treatments. We will advise you during the consultation how best to do this for your skin. If you would prefer to start with a simpler treatment, ask about microneedling – it works on the same principle of micro-channels.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, taking any medication or have a skin condition, please tell us before the treatment – together we will decide whether it is right for you.
How the treatment works
The exosome treatment is booked by phone. Before the treatment we always have a conversation and look at your skin – the consultation is included in the price of the treatment.
- We remove your make-up and any impurities, and disinfect the skin.
- With a microneedling device we deliver the exosomes and peptides into the skin: very fine needles create micro-channels through which the active ingredients reach deeper into the skin.
- To finish, we calm the skin with special products so that any redness and sensitivity pass more quickly.
It is a non-invasive treatment: the needles work only in the upper layers of the skin, no syringe is used, and the skin recovers quickly afterwards. At the end of the treatment we tell you what we noticed and advise you on how to care for your skin at home.
Aftercare
- Avoid direct sun for at least 48 hours, and after that use sun protection every day.
- Go without make-up for the first day, and avoid saunas, swimming pools and strenuous exercise.
- Use the hydrating products we choose for your skin, and follow the personal advice we give you.
How often
After the consultation and your first treatment, we will advise how many treatments your skin needs and how often. Between visits, home care does much of the work, so we give it as much attention as the treatment itself.
