What a peel is for
The skin renews itself constantly, but over the years, and with sun, stress or unsuitable care, this process slows down. Dead skin cells build up on the surface: the skin looks greyish and rough, the pores are more visible, and make-up goes on unevenly. A professional chemical peel removes this layer in a controlled way and encourages the skin to renew itself.
A peel is most often the choice when you would like:
- a smoother texture and less visible pores;
- a more even tone, where there is pigmentation or marks left by the sun;
- more radiant skin, when it looks tired and dull;
- fine lines to be less noticeable;
- to care consistently for oily, acne-prone skin.
How a peel differs from a scrub
A scrub you use at home exfoliates the surface of the skin mechanically. A professional peel works with acids: they loosen the bonds between dead cells, which then come away evenly, without rubbing.
The gentlest are fruit-acid peels (glycolic, lactic, mandelic): after these, the skin usually does not flake. Stronger peels, such as TCA (trichloroacetic acid) peels, work more deeply, so the skin may flake for a few days afterwards. The type of acid, its strength and its contact time are chosen for each skin individually, which is why a professional peel should be performed by an experienced specialist.
Our peels
The peel we offer as a treatment in its own right is Easy TCA from the Spanish Skin Tech line. Its acid penetrates the skin slowly and evenly, so the depth of its action can be controlled. The peel is given as a course and combined with home care using products from the same line. Cosmetologist Žana Mitiajeva trained in Skin Tech peels on the company’s own course in Spain.
If you would prefer a gentler acid treatment, choose an acid cleansing facial – it involves no manual extractions. The multi-step Hollywood Facial programme combines three kinds of peel. The multi-step White Tea (pyruvic and lactic acids) and Citrus Care (acids, citric acid among them) facials also include an acid step, its intensity chosen for your skin.
First, a conversation
The same peel can suit one skin perfectly and another not at all. That is why, before your first peel, we always look at your skin and talk it through: how sensitive your skin is, what products you use at home (especially any with acids or retinoids), whether you have been sunbathing recently, and what treatments you have had lately. Only then do we choose the peel, its strength, the number of treatments and your home care.
If you are pregnant, taking any medication or have a skin condition, please tell us before the treatment – together we will decide whether it is right for you.
The season and sun protection
We usually plan acid peels between autumn and spring, when the sun is weaker. Freshly renewed skin is more sensitive to ultraviolet light, so after a peel use a cream with sun protection every day, even on cloudy days, and avoid sunbathing and sunbeds. This matters more than anything: it lets the peel do your skin good and helps keep new dark spots from appearing.
After the peel
For a few days your skin may be slightly red, drier and tight, with some fine flaking. Do not pick or peel it, use only the products we recommend, and for the first few days avoid saunas, swimming pools and strenuous exercise. After the treatment, we will explain how to care for your skin at home.
Very pleasant surroundings, high-quality and pleasant service. Žana is a professional cosmetologist with considerable experience.
